Virtual Tours give the London Boat show a big buzz

One of the best ways to test if the luxury goods market has picked up is to test exhibitor activity at some of the big industry events and, in the yachting world, you don’t get much bigger than the CWM FX London Boat Show at ExCeL London and the Southampton Boat Show in Mayflower Park, both world-class events in the luxury yacht industry.

The two events are organised by National Boat Shows Ltd (NBS). NBS is a subsidiary of the British Marine Federation (BMF), the trade association for the UK leisure marine industry.

Chris Gates, Managing Director, Princess Yachts International said: "Following a successful 10 days we have been very encouraged by the results achieved, confirming its importance as a key sales platform for the business."

Nick Keepfer of Zego Marine said: “Last year we sold three boats during the whole Show and this year we have already sold 10 boats and can expect to sell at least another 10 after the Show ends.”

Fairline, one of the best known brands in the yachting world, enjoyed a successful show at London this year with lots of buyers back in the market and a steady stream of orders taken throughout the show. In particular, there was a lot of excitement around the Shadow S model, which left for Miami immediately after the show to make its highly anticipated US debut.

Even smaller brands fared well. Norfolk Boat Sales launched the Elan 30 last year and sold three and gave quotes for 10 more during the show.

Sunseeker International said the economic impact on the leisure marine industry had been challenging for a number of years but the 2015 Show had seen customers return in numbers last seen in 2008 with its sales results and confidence driven in part by the sheer number of brand new models introduced of late including four last year, four during 2015 and three planned for 2016. This required an unparalleled, substantial, investment and a commitment to the business matched by its willingness to offer a ‘Bespoke’ customisation service on all six of its yachts 30m and above, giving customers a clear upgrade path supported by its world-class dealerships.

With such events buzzing, it's no surprise that there's been unprecedented interest in virtual tours and video tours in the yachting world, enabling foreign buyers to view key elements prior to making their actual trip to book a sea trial.
